Parked in the river next to the London Olympic Park was Queen Elizabeth’s Royal Barge, the very same one that took her along the River Thames during her Diamond Jubilee celebrations.

Olympic Stadium and meadow, London Olympics 2012
The London Olympic Park was built on disused wasteland around the River Lea in east London. After the Olympics the park will remain. It was decided to plant native meadow plants in the park and the effect, with the Olympic Stadium in the background is outstanding.

Riverbank Arena, London Olympics 2012
The semi-final of the men’s hockey was at the Riverbank Arena in the London Olympic Park.
It was a pulsating game on a really hot, sunny afternoon, with Germany beating Australia 4-2. Later Germany would win gold, and Australia would win bronze.

Even though the Orbit at the London Olympic Park is ‘only’ about 100m in height, it is enough to see sweeping views of the Olympic Stadium and Park, and across the London cityscape.

The first one is of ‘The Orbit’ which is a 100m high tower from which you can get sweeping views of the Olympic Park and all over London.
