Big Bang

A photo of the start of the universe?

Not the big bang that started the universe, but a big bang from a firework, part of Fireworks Night held in the UK on the 5th of November to remember a failed attempt by Guy Fawkes and 12 others to kill the British king and members of Parliament in 1605.

Richmond Park

In the west of London

This wonderful park covers a huge area. It would take about three hours to walk around the outside of Richmond Park, and you can easily get lost in the centre.

The UK’s biggest animal , the Red Deer, lives freely in this park, there are hundreds of them.

Tajik yurt

Not a bad view from the living room

It’s not only Mongolia where yurts can be found. This one is in a village in Tajikistan. And it is more than 150 years old. I can’t believe that the outer walls haven’t been replaced numerous times, but it has been positioned in the same place all this time.

The temperature dips to -50C in the depths of winter so the yurt must have excellent insulation.

Hakone Ropeway

Altitude about 1,000m

Went on a short trip to the Hakone region, a small mountain range near to Mt Fuji.

A series of ropeways (or cable-cars) straddles the range and gives some spectacular views. You can even see Lake Ashino in the top left of the picture.

Wimbledon, my hometown

A backhand volley from Nadal

How to play a backhand volley.

This is Rafael Nadal playing in the men’s final at Wimbledon today. He hasn’t won yet, but I am sure he will!

Wimbledon is my hometown. It’s very strange to see your hometown on TV every day for two weeks.

Korean escalator

I wish all escalators were like this

This is an escalator in the Korean pavilion at the World Expo in Shanghai.

If the escalator is this colorful the rest of the pavilion must be out of this world.

Tall ships

Bob Allen on the left, Caroline Allen on the right

The world’s largest operational tall ships sailed up the Thames in central London a few days ago.

It almost looks like a scene from a hundred years ago.
