The CN Tower in Toronto, Canada is over 500m high and is one of the tallest structures in the world.

It gets hit by lightning about 50 times a year. The power in the lightning must be huge. I wonder if this power could be used?

Lightning isn’t predictable. There is not way to say when it will strike, where it will strike or with how much energy. Because of this unpredictability and because we don’t have a way of capturing and storing that much energy in 1/1000 of a second, which is the minimum speed of lightning. There is just no way of harnessing lightning with our current knowledge of it.

Thank you Smitty for the reality check. Maybe human ingenuity might one day discover some way to utilize all this energy but I guess it won’t happen for quite a few generations to come.

So harnessing the energy from lightning would solve all our energy needs!
