A lagoon is formed by a coral reef around a coral island (atoll)
This is the coral reef of Moorea, near Tahiti (which you can see in the background), in the Pacific Ocean.

Are you certain this is Moorea? This looks like the lagoon of Bora Bora with Raiatea (left) and Tahaa (right) in the background. Also, Moorea has three major Motu – None of which resemble the elongated Motu of Bora Bora’s outer atoll.
