Bayon

Near to the magnificent building known as Angkor Wat are many, many other ruins and one of them is the Bayon, which has huge faces carved into the stone. It is a very striking sight.

Angkor Wat

During a conversation between classes today I spoke with some students about Angkor Wat in Cambodia. The photo below is the central part, but the whole area is huge and there are many buildings spread over many kilometres.

Niagara Falls 3

Some students asked me how there can be two Niagara Falls, one in Canada and one in the USA.

If you look at the photo below you can see that the river leading to the falls, the Niagara River, is divided by a small island. On one side of this island is the Horsehoe Falls which is in Canada and on the other side is the American Falls which is in the USA.

Chicago skyline

One of the most famous skylines in the world belongs to Chicago, Illinois. Its skyscrapers are even taller than those in New York.

The tallest building in the picture is the Sears Tower (Sears is a department store chain). I went to the top of this building many years ago when it was the tallest building in the world, and the view was fantastic, I could see all the way to Canada!

This is a tree

What a photo and what a tree! When I was a child I loved climbing trees, but I don’t think I could have climbed this one.

This photo was taken in California and it is a sequioa tree.

Vancouver’s fireworks

Vancouver is a vibrant city in the province of British Columbia in the west of Canada. The population of Vancouver city is a little over 600,000 (less than Shizuoka city), but including the nearby suburbs and cities the population rises to more than 2,000,000 (2 million).

In many surveys it is thought to be one of the best cities in the world. The 2010 Winter Olympics will be held in Vancouver and the neighbouring city of Whistler.

Vancouver is also famous for its fireworks.
